Como recordaréis hace unos dos meses surgió la noticia de que el Centro Barraquer va a implantar un “chip” para revertir la degeneración de la retina. En nuestro afán de ofreceros  información de primera mano, desde Retina Comunidad Valenciana, hemos invitado al Dr. Jeroni Nadal para que nos de detalles sobre este tratamiento.

Visión artificial con Argus II

El Centro de Oftalmología Barraquer, como centro de referencia internacional, iniciará de forma pionera y exclusiva para España la colocación de los implantes ARGUS II. Este tipo de implante, aprobado por la FDA americana y por la CE, puede devolver la visión a pacientes con enfermedades que afectan las capas externas de la retina.  Aunque inicialmente se ha aprobado para la Retinosis Pigmentaria ya han sido tratados con éxito pacientes afectos de enfermedad de Stargardt y podría usarse en un futuro en la degeneración macular asociada a la edad de tipo atrófico o seca. Argus II es un implante que unido a una cámara HD externa y a un procesador estimula directamente la retina interna, generando un estímulo visual en las vías ópticas y mejorando la visión en el paciente tratado.
